NIE-NUMBER
YOUR SPANISH
IDENTITY-NUMBER
NIE stands for Número de Identificación de Extranjeros. It is a unique, personal identification number for foreigners living or working in Spain, comparable to the BSN number in the Netherlands.
If you are in Spain for more than three months and/or you receive an internship allowance, it is mandatory to apply for a NIE number. This is a kind of BSN number. If you want a Spanish bank account, you need it too.
Furthermore, it can also be requested for an internship contract or rental contract.
HOW DO I APPLY FOR MY NIE-NUMBER?
Applying for a NIE number yourself is a complicated process, because there are often no appointments available and you have to arrange a lot of paperwork. We therefore recommend that you ask someone to help you with this. We have a network of reliable suppliers.
You can ask someone to make the appointment for you (cheap), someone to make the appointment and go with you (slightly more expensive) or someone to take it completely off your hands and arrange it for you remotely, so that everything is ready before you go (expensive). We have detailed the options below.
